Project Overview
Another proud collaboration with Penrith Council to create a magical, castle themed playground at Jim Anderson Park, designed to inspire imaginative play for children of all ages.
Centred around a custom castle play structure, this project combines creativity, accessibility, and durability to deliver a standout community play space that engages both juniors and seniors alike.
The council’s vision was to transform Jim Anderson Park into a castle-themed adventure space that would encourage storytelling, exploration, and active play.
A concept plan was provided by council, forming the basis for a design that needed to:
- Bring the castle theme to life through custom play structures and finishes
- Provide inclusive play opportunities for multiple age groups
- Factor in existing shade structures and site conditions
- Incorporate durable, low-maintenance materials suitable for high-use community areas.
Project Design
We developed a cohesive design that integrates interactive, themed, and inclusive elements to ensure lasting play value.
Key design features include:
- Custom Castle-Themed Unit for juniors and seniors, with accessible stairs and rubber connection paths
- Interactive sensory maze for younger users to explore and enjoy
- 2-Bay Omniswing fitted with basket, strap, and infant seats for variety and inclusivity
- Non-slip balance beam and balance trail for coordination and physical challenge
- Equipment heights and layout carefully designed to work beneath existing shade structures.
Inclusivity
The playground was designed for multi-age, multi-ability play.
Accessible stairs and pathways ensure all children can join in the fun, while the variety of play types, from climbing and swinging to sensory exploration, encourages social connection and inclusive play for the whole community.
Landscaping
To complement the themed design, we integrated natural materials and community-friendly finishes throughout the site:
- Sandstone boulders and edging for durability and visual appeal
- Topsoil and turf for green open areas
- Park furniture and fencing for safety and comfort.
Project Outcome
The finished castle-themed playground at Jim Anderson Park captures the imagination of every visitor.
Themed colours and custom elements create a space where children can become knights, kings, and queens, bringing the playground to life through creative play.
The community response has been overwhelmingly positive, with glowing feedback featured in Western Sydney Mums, highlighting the park as a local favourite.
With capacity for multiple users, the playground delivers both aesthetic appeal and practical functionality, perfectly balancing fun and accessibility.
