we turn your vision into a place people remember
Austek Play works closely with landscape architects, urban designers and planning teams to take design concepts and turn them into high-quality, compliant, built outcomes.
We understand that great playground and fitness space design starts long before a product is selected. It starts with a site, a community, a vision and a set of constraints. Our role is to support your process, not override it.
Design-led
We work from your vision, not ours. Your design intent drives every decision we make.
Technical
capability
Our in-house team can engineer and manufacture to almost any specification, including custom shapes, colours and configurations.
Compliance
built in
Every product and installation meets the relevant Australian Standards. Design freedom and compliance are not in conflict.
Single point
of contact
From concept to handover, you deal with one team. No handoffs, no lost context, no gaps between design and delivery.
Projects
The best way to understand what Austek Play can deliver is to see it. The projects below represent a cross-section of our work with landscape architects, councils and schools across NSW, QLD and NT. Each one started as a brief, a sketch or a conversation — and ended as a place people actually use. Browse by project type or scroll through to find spaces that resonate with what you are working on.
Every project in this collection involved a genuine design collaboration. Some began with a detailed landscape architect’s concept plan. Others started with nothing more than a site, a community profile and a budget. What they have in common is that the design intent was respected throughout — from the first conversation about materials and equipment through to installation, compliance certification and handover. We work across a wide range of scales and contexts, from small school renewal projects to large destination playgrounds for councils, and from single-supplier fitness installations to complex multi-supplier environments requiring careful coordination. If something here looks like the kind of work you are trying to achieve, we would love to talk.
Translating design intent into a
distinctive play destination.
At Sugarloaf Park, RPS began with a clear design narrative inspired by Kairabah “place of the white cockatoo” — and a vision for a customised circular feature tower that would become a landmark within Yarrabilba. Working from that initial concept, Austek Play helped translate the architectural idea into a buildable play solution, refining form, materials, colour, play value and equipment integration while maintaining the intent behind the original sketch. The result is a sculptural bird-inspired tower that feels considered within the broader landscape rather than simply placed within it.
Collaborative design support from
concept through to completion.
Sugarloaf Park demonstrates how we can work alongside you from early sketch and design development through 3D visualisation, equipment customisation, technical coordination and delivery. Our role is to understand what you are trying to achieve first, then use our in-house design capability and extensive equipment range to help turn that vision into a safe, compliant and engaging play environment — without losing the story, character or spatial intent that made the concept distinctive in the first place.
From Architectural icon to playable form.
Taking cues from the expressive geometry of the Sydney Opera House, this concept was reimagined as a sculptural, leaf-inspired play structure for Ville de Mennecy, France. Rather than replicating the reference literally, the design translates its layered, rising forms into a new visual language that feels organic, dynamic and connected to the landscape. The result is a distinctive structure that demonstrates how an early architectural idea can evolve into a highly individual piece of play infrastructure.
Where form, function and play intersect.
The finished structure integrates multi-level platforms, varied climbing routes and progressive challenge, allowing the visual concept to work hand-in-hand with play value and movement. For landscape architects, it is a strong example of how a sketch, motif or architectural reference can be developed into a compliant, durable and engaging outcome — while retaining the character and design intent that made the original concept compelling.
Sketching
A great playspace almost always starts with a sketch. We encourage landscape architects and design teams to bring us their earliest thinking, even if it is rough.
Sketches help us understand the spatial intent, the character of the space, the scale of elements and the experience you are trying to create. Early conversations around a sketch save time later and help us ensure that what we propose is buildable within the site, the budget and the standards framework.
Our team has broad experience interpreting design intent from hand sketches, CAD concepts, mood boards and written briefs. We will work with whatever you have.
Moods & Materials
Materials define the feel of a space as much as the equipment itself. The texture of a handrail, the warmth of a timber deck, the quality of a finish. These details matter to specifiers and to the communities that use these spaces every day.
Austek Play offers a wide range of material options including powder-coated steel, hot-dipped galvanised steel, stainless steel, HDPE panels, sustainably sourced hardwoods and natural timbers. We can advise on which materials perform best for a given environment, whether that is a coastal park, a high-use school, or a native bushland setting.
Colour, texture and material samples are available on request. We can also assist with specifying materials for a custom colour brief or landscape palette.

Scoping
Scoping is one of the most valuable conversations we have with design teams. It is the stage where we align the design vision with what is achievable within the site, the programme and the budget.
A good scoping conversation covers the site context, the community it will serve, the age groups and abilities to be accommodated, the maintenance regime expected, and the budget envelope. From there, we can advise on whether the design intent is achievable as drawn, or what adjustments might be needed to deliver it within constraints.
We can assist with early feasibility advice, preliminary costings, and identifying compliance considerations before they become problems later in the design process.

Product Selection and Customisation
Playground and outdoor fitness equipment does not have to be a compromise between what you have designed and what a supplier can deliver. At Austek Play, product selection and customisation are part of the design conversation from the start, not an afterthought.
We supply equipment from trusted manufacturers including HAGS, Quali-Cité, Kaebel, Fahr and our own Austek-branded range. Each supplier brings different strengths: HAGS for large-scale combination units and inclusive play, Quali-Cité for architecturally refined urban equipment, Kaebel for natural rope and climbing structures, Fahr for early years and sensory play, and our own Austek range for Australian-made, site-specific solutions.
When we work with landscape architects, the selection process starts with the design intent, not the product catalogue. We consider age appropriateness, challenge level, maintenance demands, inclusive access requirements, spatial fit and how the equipment reads within the broader palette you have created.
Where standard product configurations do not fit the brief, the options are broader than most designers expect. Colour ranges extend well beyond standard offerings across powder coat, HDPE panels and structural elements. Configurations can be modified, extended or reduced to suit the site. Modular systems allow components to be combined in genuinely unique ways. And where no off-the-shelf solution exists, bespoke fabrication is very much on the table.
