Dahlia Park, QLD

Project Overview

Dahlia Park was a rewarding challenge from day one. The site came with gradient and existing underground services, so a lot of behind-the-scenes civil and retaining work was needed before play could even begin.

The City of Gold Coast had a clear vision: a standout play tower, a thrilling cable way, swings and inclusive elements for multiple ages, all built to withstand the coastal conditions with durable, anti-corrosive materials. They wanted a space that was fun, safe, and built to last.

From the start, the project was about more than just equipment. The team was just as focused on creating something that would bring the local community together for years to come.

Project Design

With a compact and complex site, we made every square metre count. The goal was to pack in as much play value, sensory fun, and accessibility as possible.

Highlights include:

A custom-designed play tower filled with hidden tactile elements as well as climbing and sliding fun.

A high-energy cable way with a custom entry platform that ties visually into the rest of the space and tower.

Multiple access points to make supervision easier and allow kids to move freely.

Interactive panels that stand alone and rubber paths that guide users directly to the fun.

A layout that’s easy to see across, with plenty of shade and engaging sensory areas.

Inclusivity

Creating a space that everyone can enjoy was front and center throughout the project. The play features cater to a wide range of ages and abilities. Thoughtfully placed seating, tactile panels, and smooth, safe transitions between surfaces make the park easy to navigate for all visitors, kids and carers alike.

Landscaping

The surrounding landscaping was key to tying everything together and making the park feel welcoming and finished, which included:

Removing the old play space and restoring the ground

Installing sandstone edging that also works as seating

Shaping turf mounds and setting up shaded areas

Laying rubber and mulch softfall for safety and comfort

Upgrading drainage to keep everything functioning year-round

Project Outcome

Dahlia Park is a great example of how great design and good collaboration can bring a tricky site to life. Despite the technical challenges, the park feels spacious, vibrant, and full of energy.

With a mix of natural textures, durable, quality materials, and fun design elements, the park has a personality that stands out. The fast slide, the exciting cable way, and the inviting sandstone paths make it a place the local community will enjoy for years to come.
